A solidarity shipment for Benin
The
Grimaldi Group recently supported the joint commitment of the Beninese
Consulate in Naples and many benefactors from the Campania region by providing
free of charge the transport of a container loaded with school furniture and
humanitarian aid from Salerno to Cotonou. This was the final step in an
initiative launched by the National Association of the Municipalities of Benin
and aimed at improving the living conditions for people in that African country and defending
their right to health and education.
The many
goods donated by schools, associations and private individuals in Campania
included desks, chairs, backpacks, stationery, linen, games, nappies, two
rotovators and a sewing machine: this huge solidarity load was shipped in a 40'
container from the port of Salerno on 1 February on board the Grimaldi Group
vessel Grande Benin.
This is
not the first time that the Neapolitan company has helped an undertaking
promoted by the Consulate of Benin in support of the country. In early 2023, Grimaldi
carried another community solidarity shipment on the same route, delivering
free of charge a large quantity of goods and tools necessary for the
preparation of the maternity ward of a health centre in Cotonou, as well as
school materials and furniture for local students.
The Group
supported both ventures together with the Michele Autuori maritime agency in
Salerno. At the latter's premises, on 26 January this year, a small ceremony
was held to celebrate the impending shipment of the second container to
Cotonou.
